The London Assembly – The Capital’s Other Choice

For voters in London, the focus of tomorrow’s Local Elections is undoubtedly the contest between Zac Goldsmith and Sadiq Khan to become Mayor. With apologies to the other eight candidates, this is a two horse race between Labour and the Conservatives and the stakes are high. The Mayor of London controls a huge budget and a wide range of powers, including over the Metropolitan Police and the ever-increasing remit of Transport for London. The winner will have to be an administrator for one of the world’s leading cities whilst being a canny negotiator with Whitehall and a global figurehead at the same time. Suffice to say, it’s a big job.
