John joined ICG after working as Senior External Affairs Adviser for the British Retail Consortium – the leading trade association for the UK retail industry. In this role, John worked with senior colleagues across a range of British retailers to deliver political and media campaigns on a wide variety of issues.  John led the campaign calling for fundamental reform of the business rates system, successfully ensuring that the retail industry’s concerns were recognised by the Government. The campaign achieved significant policy changes saving retailers hundreds of millions of pounds annually.

As well as Public Affairs and Stakeholder engagement, John regularly appeared on national TV and Radio as the spokesperson for the UK retail industry. As a fully rounded communications professional he has written speeches for senior leaders of some of the UK’s best loved retail businesses, as well as offering training and mentoring in effective presentation.

John began his career running political campaigns in the South West for the Liberal Democrats and he stood for the party as a candidate in the 2015 General Election in his hometown of Weston-super-Mare. He was also fortunate to be able to combine his love of the arts and his love of politics in his role as Campaigns Manager for the National Campaign for the Arts.
